My RUclips analytics show that only around 9% of my viewers are subscribed. I totally understand and agree with your opinions, I keep it as a hobby and fun. When it stops being fun I will stop RUclips. Keep doing your thing mate I for one will continue to watch and enjoy channels like yours and likewise I will continue to do my thing too! Covid made a lot of YT channels grow as people wanted to get outdoors, watch outdoors, etc, so our niche boomed a little... now all of a sudden our niche is flooded with newbies... some of them have really good channels, TBF. I always said I wouldn't monetise and did it for your reason. Count yourself lucky you get 80 a month 😂 Personality I've never chased the YT dollar, if I want to make a vid , I will, if I want to swear and take the pi@@ I will, if people don't want to watch I really don't care either. Keep it real don't play the game, just have fun 👍

Yours is a good channel with plenty of advice based on your experience. Always a good watch. You make a few bob (pun intended!) and RUclips get their cut from your efforts. You do the graft and they sit in offices, but I'd rather be on a camp out.

Hi, i was going to write a complex theory but realised when you dig deeper on the search engine, there is millions of us small fish swimming upstream and hitting a bottle neck. I have seen videos from bigger channels stating they are seeing a down turn also. Saturation point and exploitation of ideas and trying to control the monetization payouts by pushing smaller guys against bigger chanels for a while, then pulling back on them when they start generating income, Its kinda like a regulating method suppressing earning potential from small and bigger content makers. What do i know.....i am a old , fat guy running around videoing outdoors content also..if only i was in my 20s and easier on the eyes...lol.

I watch your channel Alan because I like the clarity of description into field craft, as I’ve said before you remind me of a school teacher out with his lads, on a camping trip, or, a scout leader doing the same thing. However, the political chats that can go on here, with other hikers and campers, I also enjoy, why…..because if I was at a camp with you or Sir Chris Bonington, we would all during coffee or dinner, chat, on all sorts of things, mostly field craft, yes, but some political chat might pop up, different views, and why not, so on here, I listen to what’s said, as it’s only chat, to listen, but……I’m looking at the camping set ups, the gear used, the tarps, the tents, ect,…….not the tea break chats, 😅, so, Sir Alan, Carry on Camping….😉 Brian

Thanks for coming out and kind of explaining how You Tube works! I’m glad your not to bothered about the financial side of things, because when you stop enjoying what your doing then people notice and quit watching. There was a fellow called Corporal’s Corner who use to moan constantly about views and how hard done to he felt. I finally blocked his channel because I was sick of it, even though I enjoyed some of the bushcraft skills he showed. It seemed to much like a chore to him to make a video. The only reason I continued to watch was because we were both fellow Marines and I felt loyal, but to a point. I look forward to more of your vids mate!😊

You know what I admire about your channel? Your complete unabashed honesty. I fell in love with your content 11 months ago during your upload called “Su***de Attempt-My Story. I thought then that this guy is real and I’ve followed ever since. Even if you don’t film camping, I listen to your commentary and respect your opinions. I may not agree with all of them but what you have to say matters. That’s what makes this world go round. I will always continue to “watch this space” and consume any content you wish to upload Alan.

Not totally new but discovered your channel months ago and I enjoy your content. It's what you want to do and how often you want to upload that matters. I understand. RUclips rules have gotten ridiculous but I'll still be here as long as there is content to enjoy.

slow down, njoy outdoors and in case you will make a nice video, go for it - I will like it. I saw a lot of youtuber speeding up suddenly, each Sunday, than also each Wednesday, BUT the quality, the spirit the intension and their joy was not the same like in the begining - and some gave up exhausted. I would like one once a year if it's a "real one" and I will continue to follow also for watching you one time a year 🙂

I always get notifications but I often watch vids in a binge session as i dont always have time when they come out. I think its a good idea to scale back and just be u, to only do vids u want to do,when you want to do them. i sub to see u and ur vids and wud hate to think ur feeling under pressure to create content even tho i do greatly appreciate you making the effort to control the ads on it as ads drive me up the wall. I enjoy my binging sessions, the peace you share and all the fun u have. I hope u can continue to find it fun to share with us xxXxx

Good sentiment and yeah, it is a hobby for me too and one I enjoy but what I get back, no way compensates me for what I put in. As I am retired I have the time to put in but not the money, so there is always a bit of a conflict and maybe I will get to the same stage as you one day. Respect, cheers Alan

You are 100% correct that youtube is messing around with stuff in the background. I've lost count on how many people im subscribe to put out videos, and i never know it.

I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing hoping that will resolve the issue, it’s a strange one 😬 I will definitely be sticking with you as I really enjoy your video content 😊

Your take on what is happening with RUclips was interesting and informative and I've heard or read similar on other channels I regularly watch. Fortunately, you're not reliant on income from YT and I actually prefer channels (like this one) that are not full-time RUclipsrs as they seem more genuine and sincere. RUclips seems to be promoting its Premium service more aggressively. This has led me to wonder if they're making free viewing a second-tier service compared to Premium, resulting in a lack of notifications and recommendations for non-Premium users. As A YT Premium subscriber, I always get notified of new videos for the channels I subscribe to, and I wonder if channels get paid more by YT Premium members who subscribe to a channel. Possibly, this is a subtle way for YT to spur content creators to encourage their viewers to subscribe to the Premium service.
